I really need your help girls…from the beginning -
I have PCOS which was diagnosed when i was 14. Me and my partner decided to start trying 2 1/2 years ago, i knew it would be a long ride but then on the 16th Jan i fount out i was pregnant!!! Yes…2 1/2 years of stress, worrying, scared, being anxious. Little did i know what was going to happen exactly a week later. I started bleeding and had some slight tummy cramps, me being me i went to the EPU to find out to my devastation that it was an ectopic
i then got the Methotrexate shot, slowly but surely my levels hit 0. I know im lucky i didnt have to have surgery, but i cant help how i feel. Doesn’t help that most people im surrounded by in day to day life are pregnant
so difficult and im sure many of you can relate.
How do i move on? What happens if it takes another 2 1/2 years?! Or it happens again after all that?
I feel like im being made to move on and be my happy self again, but i cant
so many questions just no answers.
Anyone got any advice? please
Thanks soo much, Lori xx
Hi Lori,
I don’t have any advice, but I just wanted to offer my sympathy for what you’re going through. I am in the same boat (PCOS, finally got a BFP after two years, only to find out it was an ectopic). I have all the same fears. I’m so sorry that either of us has to go through this.
Thank you, it’s nice to know your not on your own (even if it is rubbish for us both!) I’m off to the doctors on Thursday for some unanswered questions and where to go from here
xx
Dear Lori2014,
I am so sorry you suffered an ectopic pregnancy. I know it is absolutely no consolation but I wanted to share with you some words that were said to me that may help…
I suffered a missed miscarriage followed by an ectopic pregnancy but initially it was thought my ectopic was a second miscarriage. Feeling like I couldn’t emotionally face a third miscarriage on the NHS before finding out there was something wrong with me I went privately to Harley Street in London and was told by the consultant “I would be more concerned about you being able to have a baby if you had never been pregnant… At least we know now that you can get pregnant and the body seems to learn how to get pregnant and get better at it”.
I appreciate you have a complicating factor with the PCOS but, if this helps to give you hope too, my Sister In Law has suffered since childhood and has gone on to have four children, including twins, naturally. I believe she may have had clomid before her first but, after falling pregnant, the first time she had no further treatment.
I hope this provides some hope.
Best wishes,
EPT Host 13
Thank you. I know it will just take time, it was nearly 3 years before my first pregnancy that ended up being ectopic
I’ve heard many stories of happy endings. Luckily now I think they will look after me abit more now with the pcos.
Xx
Hi ladies,
I know I’m a little late seeing this post but I wondered how you were both doing? I’m a fellow pcos-er! Do you mind me asking if you had your EP with a natural, medicated or IVF conception? I had a EP whilst on our third cycle of clomifene treatment. It is devastating when it takes so long to get to the point of pregnancy. I had surgery but it’s undecided if I need further surgery to remove my right tube. I go for a hycosy once things have healed in 3 months. Would really like to know more about your journeys if you are happy to share. x
Hi November6, sorry you had to go through this horrible situation too
I got pregnant naturally but after nearly 3 years of trying, first pregnancy was ectopic
I am waiting for my appt for an ultrasound on my ovaries as one of them had quite a large cyst on. How long have you known youve had pcos for? xx
Hey Lori,
Oh wow… That’s good news that you didn’t need any medical intervention for the pcos.
This was our first pregnancy also after being told it was a miscarriage for 9 weeks and then finding the ectopic pregnancy
when I went in for a lap @ dye test.
Have you been referred to the fertility clinic now?
I was diagnosed with pcos in 1999 when I was 16 years old. I guess I always knew deep down that it would be a long ttc journey.
I hope your scan goes well… What have they advised next for you when your ready to start ttc again?
x
Oh that’s so horrible for you
we were just referred to fertility clinic when I found out I was pregnant! So they won’t refer me for another couple of months!
I am overweight so when I started losing weight doing the low gi diet my periods started coming back, so I know what I need to do.
Whats your next step? Xx
Oh that’s a bummer that they won’t refer you sooner. I think they only prescribe clomid when your bmi is under 32 and for ivf it needs to be under 30… That’s what I was told in my trust anyway. My bmi is 28 but am trying to get it under that golden number 25 haha! Slowly but surely!
We go back for a post op appointment in 3 weeks… I think we will talk about our options, which we discussed post surgery but I was pretty groggy from the general anaesetic and it was a lot to take in. Then our consultant wants to do a hycosy in three months once things have healed to check both tubes and he will quite likely want to remove the right tube he said, where I had the EP. He has already offered us IVF but it seems too final and we know a low dose of clomid ‘works’ so if my left tube is ok, I’d like the right one out and to try clomid again.
I’ve not tried the low gi diet is it any good? I joined slimming world. x
P.S excuse the time, I’m really not sleeping well at the moment!
I know the doctor said they would reject my offer if we retried now!
oh right that’s good to know, atleast I’ve got something to work to!
Did they offer you clomid first then?? Atleast you know that works, and for us to have pcos and conceive is a miracle in its own right!! How do you feel emotionally??
Xx
Hey Lori,
What do you mean about rejecting your offer if you retried? As in they’d delay your referral? You’ve already been ttc long enough to get help… It’s two years now for the ‘average couple’ but one year actively ttc if you already have a diagnosis like pcos. If your over 35 then it’s 6 months I think.
Yes, I got given 6 cycles of clomid on our first fertility appointment but I did question getting my tubes checked first as I had researched that this was practice in my trust.
Do you ovulate on your own… Do you use opks or temp? That was my problem as I have periods but they were annovulatory.
Emotionally I feel sad and have been upset on and of this week. We grieved what we were told was a miscarriage in march and then this bombshell that it was actually ectopic when I went in for a routing lap & dye in may… My hormones have been all over the place. I know it’ll be difficult but we’ll get through it.
How are you doing now?
