Please help. I have been told possible ectopic but not sure

Please. Im devastated, angry and feel guilty.

I was told at 4weeks 2 days that I possibly had an ectopic pregnancy due to slow rising HCG levels. They did a scan at 4 weeks 5 days and all I was told is that ‘you have thickened up nicely’. There was no fluid or anything in or around my tubes but it could have been to early to tell.

I am now in the wait for a scan next week (9 days away) and its killing me.

I havent spotted or had any bleeding. I havent had any pain save for stabbing pain on my right hand side. Its as far on the side as you can get and feels like its between my ribs and hip.

For the last 4 days It hasnt gotten any worse and its only a few times a day. I have had period cramps worse than this pain and its not even enough to make me blink.

Im now 5 weeks and 3 days and im wanting to know if there is anything that should be happening by now to indicate for sure that its ectopic or not?? I cant wait over a week for my scan!!

My pains wernt bad at all. Just like a stabbing pain in my left side now and again. It hurt like hell if someone pressed on the side by my pelvis tho.

I was getting alot of dizzyness, nausea and I felt so weak. I did bleed the week before so I thought I’d miscarried. I got checked because I was testing positive a week after bleeding. I’d had a scan 2 days before being admitted to hospital too where they said I was no longer pregnant even tho I was still testing positive 5 days after the bleeding. This place is now being investigated & they have admitted they failed me.

My advice to you is don’t wait. Go to your GP or your local EPU. If it is ectopic you don’t want to risk it rupturing as it is life threatening.

I hope and pray this isn’t the case for you.

It’s so much easier said than done but as crappy a situation as you may have to face you could equally go on to have a normal healthy pregnancy. Please try not stress yourself and try to focus on the fact they said that you were thickening up nicely and no fluid.

I had severe pain all along my lower abdomen and up my right side, I couldn’t stand and I could hardly catch my breath. I had spotting for about 3 days before. Sorry I can’t be more help. Please keep us up to date. I hope everything is ok for you. X

Do you mind if I ask when you started spotting? And what normal pregnancy symptoms did you still get?

Don’t mind at all, ask away. I started spotting about 3/4 days before I can’t remember exactly. I didn’t know I was pregnant :expressionless: found out on the day. I had taken two pregnancy test though but were negative, consultant said if I took another one a day later it would have been positive, I assume because Hcg would have been slower. I did feel super tired and more sicky but it was still early so not a lot of signs. X

Hi!

I am sorry to hear what you are going through and the worry of not knowing. I am going through an angular pregnancy at the moment (see separate post here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40425 ) but I had a similar experience at appx. 4 weeks when my HCG-levels were higher than normal and I was taken to hospital to check it out. The doctors where trying to figure out if it was an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy and I went for numerous tests. After about 6 different doctors and specialists looking at ultrasound scans through a period of 2-3 weeks, they eventually dismissed it as a normal pregnancy. I was of course overjoyed, but this joy was crushed about 6 weeks later when I went for a routine ultrasound and the doctors definitely diagnosed it as an angular pregnancy.

So although I do not want to scare you, please go for second and third opinions even if they first tell you everything looks normal. Rare types of pregnancies do occur, such as angular pregnancies, cornual pregnancies, cervical pregnancies etc and since there is next to no information on these types of pregnancies and doctors and specialists even at the largest hospitals are so unaware and haven’t come across these types, they may miss the diagnosis.

I keep my fingers crossed all will be perfectly normal for you.

Warm wishes, Erika

Ive been spotted and in the scan/Hcg system since around 5 weeks and finally seem to be getting lower Hcg after passing the pregnancy at 8 weeks.

My pains have never been bad. I couldn’t understand why I needed all this close monitoring. For me, i had spotting and some intermittent light cramps (not even worth taking an ibuprofen for). They weren’t sure if I was having a miscarriage. Only in the past couple of days at 8 weeks along (though nothing ever seen on scan and low Hcg so probably measuring less - around the 4-5 we mark) I had a slight elastic band type pull in my hip.

I think in my head having seen suspected ectopics in friends and them being met with an acute pain, I was surprised at how, early on, it can have few symptoms.

Due to spotting I had 48hours hcg tests. Are you being monitored by an Early Assessment Pregnancy Unit? Mine works on self referral.

I’m sure 9 days feels like forever. The difficulty they had with me is that bc things likely didn’t progress at normal growth, it was before a stage where they would see on the scan anyway. So at 5 weeks they said to come back next week initially (before spotting) bc sometimes you just can’t see that early. The waiting is so tough though I hear you.
