Pain on side tube removed, bfn, 2nd ep???

Hi all, hoping someone can advise.

I had an ectopic pregnancy in Jan of this year and had my right tube removed. For that pregnancy it took quite a while for me to get a bfp, I think my period was like a week late before a faint line showed up. We have started TTC again, this is the second month. Since the surgery I do get twinges in my right side quite a lot, especially during ovulation/period etc which I have been told is normal. I’m currently 12dpo, have been feeling properly nauseous for the past week and a half, metallic taste in mouth, really bloated, really bad back pain, I would swear I was Pg but still getting a bfn (I got none of these symptoms with ectopic) but the thing worried about is the back pain is more on the right side, and I have these twinges/uncomfortable pain in my right side (where the tube was removed). Is it possible to have another ectopic on the same side? Is the fact I’m getting a bfn a sign I’m going to have another ectopic. I understand I may sound crazy but just so worried after last time! Thanks for any help!x

Dear Ashley87,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and the worrying time you are going through.

As you have rightly said you can get twinges on the side of your ectopic pregnancy.

Although very rare indeed, there have been reports of ectopic pregnancies in the stump of where tubes are removed, but as I mentioned this is extremely rare, so try not to worry. As a little reminder, the chances of a further ectopic after a first in UK is 10%. So that’s 90% chance of the embryo being in right place next time.

I would advise completing a pregnancy test around the time you were expecting your period, if this is negative complete a test a week later. It maybe too early to pick up on low hCG levels yet.

I wouldn’t rely on pregnancy tests to determine if you are having an ectopic pregnancy. From personal experience, the line on the test from my ectopic pregnancy was bold and bright. The line when I first tested on my successful pregnancy was barely visible.

If you remain concerned, please talk to your GP who maybe able to complete hCG bloods for you and I would always advise that if you continue to experience abdominal pains, or you have shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell please seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Thanks for.getting back to me, it really helped me relax.

I’m now 9 days late, no more twinges, I think I have just ‘skipped’ a period and am not stressing about it.

However, because I have already had an ectopic, should I be going to docs in this case for a check?

Dear Ashley87,

If you haven’t yet had a period and still experiencing twinges and pain, I would advise discussing this with your GP.

Soooo, currently 5 weeks late, negative blood tests, I’m not pregnant, thats fine. BUT my lower back is killing me on one side, it’s a constant dull ache. It doesn’t feel like anything urgent enough to go to a&e, but really at a loss of where to turn. Doctor offering up nothing (had blood tests which came back ‘normal’ occording to receptionist when I rang up for results, and haven’t been able to get gp on phone since). Early pregnancy unit can’t talk to me as not pregnant. Not really sure where to go from here?? Anyone else ever had this 6 months after surgery?

Dear Ashley87,

As I do not have access to your medical notes, it is difficult for me to comment on your blood results. Also with the symptoms you are experiencing, have you had tests for a urinary tract infection as your symptoms also sound similar to this type of infection.

If your symptoms continue, please do get back to discuss with your GP.
