Pain in left hand side

Hi all,

I recently had an ectopic pregnancy and had emergency key hole surgery my left tube had ruptured so it was removed. It’s been 2 weeks since it’s all happened and I’m feelinf a tiny bit better in myself however I’m still having pains inside my body on the left hand side. Is this normal? I’m worried that something else is wrong, It starts throbbing and aching after light activity like walking for 10 minutes or housework and doesn’t go for quite some time, or is this just my body telling me to rest more?

Thank you in advance for any reply’s x

Hi Amber1810,

I’m so very sorry to hear that you’ve gone through an ectopic pregnancy and loss. I too had the key hold surgery for one of my ruptured ectopics. Recovery time is very unique for each woman. It can be very normal to feel pains after surgery for ectopic pregnancy. The pain you are feeling could be due to your body healing or as a result of adhesions or scar tissue which forms as part of the recovery process. It could also be because your menstrual cycle is restarting or because of ovulation pains as many women feel ovulation pains when they did not before. It might also be as a result of heightened awareness after your ordeal.

To assist, you could keep a pain diary too - when you experience the pain and where, its intensity and anything that helps like rest or pain relief, and noting when your period starts. You can also speak to your doctors sooner, taking these notes with you a GP appointment and the details will help your doctors best manage your symptoms. It is always better to get checked out to be on the safe side.

Your surgery is still very recent, and I would encourage you to take time to look after yourself and rest. Ectopic pregnancies are emotional and physical traumas, and it can time some time to recovery.

Be well and know we are here for you.

With good wishes,

Michele

Hello

It’s been two weeks since my surgery too. I also had my left tube removed along with my ovary.

Like you I get some discomfort/pain after light activities and house work.

I was at the hospital yesterday (weekly checkup) and the nurse said it was my body telling me to slow down, we need to take time to rest and heal. (As boring as that might be)

I hope you start to feel better soon and sending a hug… Here if you ever want to chat.
