Hello I was hoping someone might be able to offer a bit of advice please? I had a ectopic pregnancy which had ruptured and had surgery to remove my right fallopian tube. I’ve had a pain in the left side of my back, it’s not constant but hurts if I lie on it. Also my right hand side where I had the key hole surgery had also started to ache? Could it be because I’m doing too much?? Thank you
Dear HHuges,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Generally we advise that you should take it very easily for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time and please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others, one day you maybe ok and the next you maybe in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body’s signals and pain and feeling tired are your body’s signs to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy balanced diet, drinking lots of water and resting. Once your wounds have healed, very gentle exercise such as a short walk can help, but please do take this slowly.
We would would suggest taking the pain relief that has been prescribed for you as directed by your doctors, however if your pain is changing or worsening or if you find that you have an increased body temperature of more than 37°C or offensive smelling discharge or the wound site starts oozing or feels hot to touch, please do get medical attention as soon as possible as these can be signs of infection.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Sounds like you are doing too much. If you take over the counter pain relief, does the pain subside quite a bit? Remember you’ve had surgery and being pulled and tugged around inside your womb so you are bound to feel achy and a bit poo! I had very bad pain on my right side after surgery but this was very bad, off the scale pain! It was because blood was pooling in my abdomen due to fetal tissue attaching and regrowing again! I had surgery but obviously they had missed something. Methotrexate has solved the problem and I no longer have pain there now. I don’t want to frighten you as it may not be that, but what I am saying is to keep an eye on it and if it still hurts or you feel that something is not right, go back to the hospital that treated you and see what’s going on. Take care of yourself and make sure you rest up! XHHughes:
