Pain after trying to conceive

Hello all,

I had an ectopic pregnancy in my left tube in January and had to have the pregnancy and tube removed. I then had a miscarriage in April and had a D&C.

We have been trying to conceive and what would be around implantation time I’m having pain very similar to when I first got my tube removed. I am really worried that I could be pregnant but it’s implanted in the scar of the ectopic - how common is this? I wondered if anyone out there who became pregnant had any feelings like this and it turned out ok? I didn’t have this with the pregnancy that followed the ectopic. Is there any thing I can do in this wait time?!

Dear LTQKVS,

I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.

The chance of a second ectopic pregnancy after a first is roughly 10%. That’s then 90% chance that you will have a successful pregnancy.

I remember when I was trying to conceive following my ectopic pregnancy and every twinge sent me into a panic. It can be completely normal to feel discomfort when we next fall pregnant as I think we naturally have heightened sensitivity with everything we have been through.

I would suggest taking a pregnancy test (with a first morning wee) on the day of your expected period. If this is positive and you still have pain, please seek medical advice.

I cannot give personalised medical advice, so if you are concerned about the pain, or it worsens, or you begin to feel dizzy and unwell, again please seek medical advice.

Sending much love,

Karen x
