Hi, I suffered an ectopic last year. We decided to start trying a few months ago. Ever since my ectopic I have had what I believe to be ovulation pain. I never had this before the ectopic. It’s always the day my apps say I am due ovulation. I have very regular cycles and measure my temp so I do believe the ovulation days are correct. However the pain I have is on the same side every month which is the side I had Fallopian tube removed. My concern is does this mean I only ovulate from one side, or could I be experiencing pain even if ovulation from opposite side? Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Dear Hei51,
Many women, including myself can feel ovulation pain following ectopic pregnancy, it is quite common. I also felt it on the side of my ectopic however when I next fell pregnant, it was from my opposite ovary.
Nobody is sure why we experience ovulation pain, but one theory is that ovulation pain is the egg breaking through the ovary wall, which releases a small amount of fluid (or sometimes a small amount of blood) that irritates nerves. I do not think there is any evidence to suggest this impacts on future fertility at all, however if you are concerned, I would suggest keeping a diary of the pain, how long it lasts, what helps and speaking to your GP about it.
Sending much love,The
