Ovulation pain a year on?

Hi all,

It’s now just over a year since I had my left Fallopian tube removed. I’ve noticed the last 2 cycles that I’m having pain on that side around ovulation and a bit of brown and rust coloured blood in my fertile discharge (a tiny amount). I’ve looked on the NHS website and it says if you ovulate from the side that there’s no longer a tube it can cause irritation so can be painful with spotting. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m obviously really sensitive to gyne pain especially that side and freak out a bit! :? I’m waiting for the GP to call me later to see what she says but was hoping others could offer some reassurance.

Hello, I’m so sorry to hear about your pain. I too have experienced greater ovulation pains following an ectopic. My doctor advised that this was likely due to pelvic surgery as well as endometriosis and advised that I seek physical therapy for my pelvic floor. It definitely helps with the pain. I hope that’s helpful as something to consider exploring.

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and continued discomfort.

Whilst this can be common after surgery, I would always advise any woman with unusual bleeding or abdominal pain to seek medical advice and I hope you hear from your GP soon.

Thanks for your responses.

My GP was brilliant and examined me. She said everything looks healthy but is referring me for an internal scan just for peace of mind.

She said it could be a few reasons -

  • after surgery (I’ve also had 2 c sections) scar tissue can cause discomfort.

  • ovary maybe slightly irritated as it is having to reabsorb the egg.

  • It could also be that my hormone levels are slightly off (I’m now mid 30s)

  • I could have a cyst on the ovary

Hopefully the scan will reassure me further that it’s nothing sinister. I definitely feel relieved that I’ve seen the GP and been examined. X
