New pregnancy & Ache between shoulder blades

Morning all,

I’ve recently found out I’m pregnant again after a traumatic Cesearean Scar Ectopic Pregnancy last year (March 2022).

I’ve got absolutely no abdominal or pelvic pain. But I have an ongoing ache inbetween my shoulder blades on my spine. Almost feels as if I slept funny. The ache moves into my shoulder / neck if I move my neck or arms.

But every niggle or twinge I’m now second guessing.

Anyone else experienced this? I’m booked in for next Friday to have am early scan.

Thank you x

Dear Amyanne,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have friends here who understand how you are feeling. It is good to see you are booked in for your early scan.

Unfortunately we are unable to give specific medical advice and as pain is so subjective, I would advise speaking to your doctors if you are concerned.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, I sadly have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell to seek urgent medical advice.

Sending positive thoughts for your scan,

Karen x

Hi Karen,

Thank you for your reply.

I spoke to my rheumatologist yesterday, as I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and she was very helpful in telling me these sounded like a typical flare with the surge of hormones.

I’m having lots more pain today (not pregnancy related) but all joints such as fingers, knees, hips, toes. My shoulders seem better ish today but I’m booked in for a steroid injection to help with the swelling which in turn should help the pain. So then I’m hoping I can stop second guessing everything.

Hoping and wishing this pregnancy isn’t ectopic x

Dear Amyanne,

I’m glad you sought medical advice and they have been able to reassure you.

I will continue to send positive thoughts for your scan,

Sending much love,

Karen x
