I got a faint positive line today but have also been having shoulder pain the last few days. Had an ectopic pregnancy last year and just worried if it’s happening again or am I overthinking it?
Hey, congratulations on your Pregnancy. I’m in the same boat as you at the moment.
I definitely think having been through an Ectopic you’re more alert to twinges and pains that may not have necessarily bothered you beforehand…
But I would say if it’s something that does keep niggling you then to go and let the EPAU check you over just for your own peace of mind. I think otherwise you will end up worrying yourself sick. Hope everything is ok for you
Firstly, whispered congratulations!!
I know exactly how you feel as I’ve been there myself. I had an ectopic pregnancy in February this year and found out I was pregnant again in June. My anxiety was through the roof ( still is to a certain extent) but I was so convinced I was having another ectopic. I occasionally got shoulder pain and also had cramps and twinges all over especially on the side of the ectopic. I got a scan at 6 weeks and everything was confirmed in the right place - I am now 17 weeks with a baby girl!
I would advise booking an early scan with early pregnancy to make sure everything is in the correct place and also go to the hospital if you experience severe pain or bleeding. However I do hope this gives you some reassurance that you can go on to have a normal pregnancy after an ectopic and helps you relax a little until your first scan. It is so normal to feel anxious and I still do just now, I think after going through such a traumatic experience we won’t properly relax until our baby is in our arms!
Wishing you the best of luck and hope everything works out for you xx
Dear Buckley,
Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,
Shoulder tip pain is very specific pain in ectopic pregnancy and is exactly that, pain at the tip of the shoulder. It is not a generalised shoulder ache or pain. It is usually one of the later symptoms of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and so people generally would also have other symptoms aswell, such as tummy pain, bleeding, feeling dizzy and unwell. Having said that, if you are concerned, I would advise seeking medical advice.
It is really common to experience discomfort when we fall pregnant following ectopic pregnancy, I do wonder if we have a heightened sense after everything we have been through. As others have mentioned, please do book in for your early pregnancy scan at around 6 weeks. This can be organised by self referring to your early pregnancy unit, or via your GP surgery. Please seek further medical advice if you develop any worsening pain or bleeding, or you feel dizzy and unwell.
Sending much love and positive thoughts,
Karen x
