Miscarriage, ectopic and now?

I am new here, just after some empathy

I had an miscarriage October 17 following a gap in trying to conceive. My symptoms were more aches than usual and VERY small clots. When called 111 they got a out of hours doc to call me. She said miscarriage is clots the size of 50p coins and a lot of blood. I was not soaking pads by all means but was hard to put un context the amount as only use tampons on periods, and my period is small anyway only two to three days. After bleeding stopped, so did positive test results, I had miscarried.

In January 18 I had an ectopic which caused me extremely painful cramping stabbing pains to the point where I couldn’t carry anything heavy or walk with my back straight. I was advised to go to A&E which I felt silly to do as I wasn’t dying ( ) and after waiting for 5 hours (they logged me in as arrived to another hospital somehow when I arrived but I thought oh it’s January and they’re busy… Turns out I should have been seen in half hour from arrival.) They did urine sample, bloods, then sent me to EPU I wish I knew they existed before! They did internal exam and said as my pains had stopped it was most likely a miscarriage but because I went through A&E they would book a scan a week from then which was exactly 6 weeks.

On the day of scan, they scanned (when I asked was anything abnormal they said no) waited few hours, took bloods told not to eat or drink just in case and whens last time I had eaten or drunk anything, my suspicions started to raiseatthis point…waited another few hours scanned again and from that scan I was having keyhole surgery in 20 minutes jumping the queue for who ever had been waiting for God knows how long…

Surgery was really needed, and right tube removed, some blood from my pelvis too but other tube apparently looked healthy.

Now 5-6 months later I am getting a positive test, starting to bleed at 4+6(same as the time of ectopic) have had two tiny clots and bleeding since first day has got to just a hue of color when wiping in the toilet. No pain apart from the first day but that was dull period type in lower back.

Scan booked for next Wednesday 6+1. Not getting much of a response from the hospital when told them about my bleeding they just told me to go to A&E if in lot of pain or bleeding increases to lots. Otherwise just wait for the scan.

Not sure what to think. Work is stressing me out at the minute and my daughter has had 3 weeks of temperature a week of chicken pox and a week or vomiting and diarrhea in a space of two months!! I am just needing a time out and feeling at the moment that the bleeding is reminding me more about the ectopic bleed than the miscarriage. I never bled during my pregnancy when I was carrying my daughter. Constant doubts, hopefulness and fear.

I feel better already for writing it all down!

Hi Joa,

I am so sorry to hear about your previous ectopic pregnancy and the worrying time you are having now. After going through such an ordeal, it is normal to feel quite anxious about falling pregnant and be heightenly attuned to what your body is going through.

It’s good you have an early scan booked. The six week mark helps to ensure that they are able to have a more clear view of what is occurring, as having it earlier might be inconclusive. I know how hard the wait can be.

You should also know that many EPUs are walk-in and that should you need to be seen sooner, that is an option as well. Of course, if you are in pain or exhibiting signs of ectopic rupture, then you need to go to A & E.

I know how difficult it is to be a mum and juggle the daily things of life, while also worrying about ectopic pregnancies or miscarriage. Please be good to yourself and take some time for yourself where you are able. Being pregnant is physical and emotional, and its important to look after yourself.

We are here for you and are sending you all our good thoughts

With good wishes,

Michele
