Hello,
I found out I was pregnant in mid February, and it was ruled Ectopic in mid March. I was treated with 2 round of methotrexate and my HCG levels hit zero around April 10th. After the methotrexate shots I did have heavy bleeding for a couple of days, and light bleeding. I got my first period on June 1st following levels hitting zero. At first the period was light, and grew heavier and heavier as time went on. I am now on day 25 of having a period, and the last 10 days it has been heavy, I need to change my tampon/pad every 3 hours.
I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences with heavy, long bleeding after ectopic pregnancies, and if they had any advice on how to get back to a “normal” cycle.
Dear cmarket,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Your periods can take a while to re-establish and settle into a rhythm that is more usual for you. Mine took a while to settle too. At first periods may be more painful or less so than usual, heavier or lighter, last for longer or shorter than usual – there really is no set pattern. You should be able to manage the discomfort with over-the-counter pain relief and should not be soaking a pad in less than an hour. If this is not the case, you should seek medical attention
I’m hoping this settles for you with time, but as I’m not medically trained, I would advise talking to you doctor. Also, while I do not want to alarm you, if you experience any pain or unusual bleeding, please do get medical attention as soon as you can.
Sending much love,
Karen x
