How long did it take you to get pregnant after your ectopic pregnancy?
This is a standing poll
We are regularly asked how long it takes to get pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy and the research clearly suggests specific time frames but women ask it of us at the EPT because they want to know how long its taken people whom they can identify with who they find here.
So we have decided to try this standing poll just to see what % of women conceived when and whilst it’s not strictly scientific, it will give others a much clearer idea of how long it really takes.
Please be aware the question is how long did it take you to get pregnant from the time you started to try to conceive - different people choose to wait different times but as you’ll be aware the recommended time is to wait for at least three months irrespective of how your ectopic pregnancy was treated.
We are interested in how many women actually became pregnant and that is irrespective of the outcome … and irrespective of the method so assisted conceptions are also relevant such as IUI and IVF or those who took clomid.
All of the following are relevant to this poll: Pregnancies resulting in live births, and if they do not any of the kind of pregnancy losses including Stillbirth, Neonatal Loss, Miscarriage, Ectopic Pregnancy, Chemical Pregnancy - all count in this poll it’s about how long it took to become pregnant and not about the outcome.
The reason for this is gives a rule of thumb indication to the level of fertility among women who suffer ectopic pregnancy and fertility is also about the woman’s ability to conceive.
We are really looking forward to the out come of this poll and will leave it here for people to contribute to as they see fit - we are sure it will result in information that will be helpful to our users.
Vote is completely anonymous and there is no way of tracking the vote - however once you have voted you will not normally be able to vote a second time.
Thanks very much for you interest.
How Long did it take you to become pregnant after your ectopic pregnancy?
Just to add further info. I was told to wait 3 months to ttc. I got pregnant at just under the 3 month mark on the first try.
PLEASE NOTE
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust - Strongly advises women to wait for at least 3 months after treatment for ectopic pregnancy - to enhance the success of a future pregnancy - this advice is of particular importance after treatment with Methotrexate.
Do you want specifically how many months following ectopic or how many months of ttc (not including the first few months of waiting)?
Thank you for this question
We would suggest you answer the question by indicating the number of months you were trying to conceive irrespective of how many months you chose to wait before you decided to try again.
This is a very useful clarification question and we will try to add this in the post that introduces the poll so others can be clear about the information to give.
this is a tough one for me. After my methotrexate, I ttc as soon as my levels made it to 0 (I wasn’t informed to wait & didn’t know about ept) but didn’t get pg until 10ms later. After my surgery for my second ectopic, we waited a year, but when we ttc, we got pg after the first cycle.
With my first pregnancy, which was a heterotopic pregnancy (twins, 1 EP and 1 MC) I got pregnant within the first month of trying
With my second pregnancy, which is this one, post EP and m/c and left tube removed, I got pregnant again in the first month of trying, after waiting the recommended amount of time.
I got pg with my second ep on the thrid months of TTC following my first EP (so if you were to include the 3 month wait, uit was the 6th month - hope that makes sense). It took me much longer to get pg the first time (2 years or more) I believe this was a s a result of fulling understanding my body, as well as a good diet and exercise.
We were told to wait three months, but waited four. I got pregnant the first cycle we tried.
(With my first two pregnancies, I also got pregnant the first month we tried; the first I miscarried, the second was ectopic. It was beginning to look like I had no trouble becoming pregnant, only staying pregnant.)
Not sure if my vote counts cos still haven’t had a successful pregnancy.
But post EP it was in the 4th month of trying (after we’d waited the recommended 3 months) that I conecived again, however it was another EP. So just a little longer than my previous 3 pregnancies:
1st pg - conceived on 3rd month ttc (but miscarried).
2nd pg - conceived on 2nd month ttc (again miscarried).
3rd pg - conceived on 1st month ttc- very silly as I had only miscarried 2 weeks before (EP)
Sorry for the doom & gloom!! Here’s hoping the next one will be a stayer!
Cool poll.

Your vote does count because the question is how long did it take you to become pregnant - not what was the outcome of the pregnancy
I had my ep June 05 and got my BFP last week. Iv’e had one failed IVF treatment and was a quarter way through another IVF cycle when I had to stop as got my BFP.
I think it was stress of not being able to conceive that made it so long to get my BFP as I lost one tube.
After ep, we waited the 3 cycles (which came out to 2 1/2 months for me) before ttc. I got pregnant the first time we tried. Made it to 11 1/2 weeks before miscarrying.
I didnt want to know about getting pregnant for about 7 months after my EP.
And even when we started talking about it I was terrified, but at the same time we started talking about it we started getting a little slack on the contraception and within about 2 months I was pregnant.
I was told to wait at least 6 months after both of my EP.
It seems to depend where you are being treated they seem to have different guidelines !!
6 months is longer than the usual recommended time frame unless you were treated with 2 injections of methotrexate when it’s always suggested that you wait for 6 months Moderator
