First month ttc after my ectopic last year (tube removed) and my period has just come. Feel gutted as had sex every other day around fertile window. Finding it hard to accept it may take longer than before with 1 tube now but have convinced myself my ectopic has messed up my fertility. How long did it take everyone else to conceieve again following ectopic?
Dear Pinkrose,
I truly understand how upsetting it is waiting to conceive. I was treated with methotrexate and it took around 7 months.
The chances of a further ectopic after a first in UK is 10%. So that’s 90% chance of the embryo being in right place next time.
While generally it is possible to conceive after an ectopic pregnancy, the amount of time it takes varies from couple to couple. Factors include age, general health, reproductive health and how often you have sex, among other things. It may be comforting to know that 65% of women are successfully pregnant within 18 months of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and some studies suggest this rises to around 85% after two years.
In addition. having regular sex means having sex every 2/3 days throughout the month. Guidance from the UK’s National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence advises that having sex around the time when the woman ovulates causes stress and is not recommended. We here at the EPT suggest having intercourse 2/3 times between days 10-20 of their cycle when trying to conceive. We also have information on our website on trying to conceive here:

I had my right tube removed in Jan 2024. Still trying to conceive. I really didn’t think it would have been such a difficult and long road ahead, I guess I wasn’t prepared for the reality. In hindsight, I would have looked into fertility treatment a lot earlier (I.e HSG, meds etc).
Sending lots of love and luck to you on your journey.
Dear Emerald,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss.
I know it is difficult when we don’t conceive as quickly as we would like.
We often recommend to seek medical advice for those who have not conceived after 12 months if younger than 35years and 6 months in those older than 35years.
If in the UK, you can ask your doctors for a referral to fertility clinic and GPs will sometimes initiate some blood tests too.
Best wishes
