Got my period a week after hcg 4. Normal??

Hi ladies I have been monitoring my hcg levels and finally a week ago hit below 5. After exactly a week I got my period. I don’t understand what happened here. I heard that a period comes after 4-6 weeks from when hcg hits 0. Why this to me? Is this a real period?x

Dear Katarinamagissa,

It sounds like this is your first bleed after an ectopic pregnancy, and this is not classed as a period - it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels as you are sadly no longer pregnant and shedding of the uterine lining that had build up which involves bleeding.

You are right in saying your first period is usually 4-6 weeks later.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Hi Karen

I got pregnant on the 1st November ( I know exactly the date) and I had a positive Hcg test (124) on the 23rd November. Then I bled and my hcg levels went down to 40. I just left it like that thinking that it’s a chemical pregnancy and when my period wasn’t coming I decided to take another hcg test (beginning Jan) which was 90. So, from 40—>90. Then the doctors told me that it is better to do expectant management and indeed a week ago my levels dropped to 4. And today I had bleeding again. I am so confused!!is this classified as period since I had a first bleeding before?

I would be grateful for any input x
