Hi, I would like to remember my loss and my reflections during this time with a tattoo (I already have a few and it’s my way to honour things if that makes sense). I have 2 concerns though: 1. I would wait until the 3mo after methotrexate injection are over just in case of any infection issues (my doctor was a bit short on this but seemed to think that this is fine) would you agree? 2. I get very mixed opinions about the time to wait between getting a tattoo and trying again and I feel very uncertain now about what to do. It’s quite important to me to mark this time and the loss but obviously I would also like to try again and reduce any risks that are under my control. Do you have any thoughts, suggestions on this? Thank you
Dear Cee14,
I am not an expert in tattoos I’m afraid and i’ve tried to look at literature but there is not much around.
Methotrexate is an immunosupressant so it is very important that you do not have a tattoo during treatment as it may increase your risk of infection.
If your doctor has said after your hCG levels are back to pre-pregnancy levels, I would go with that.
Tattoos during pregnancy do not seem to be recommended due possibility of infection and absorption of ink, but I can see little information on timings of trying to conceive. There is very little evidence based research on this topic I’m afraid and I’m sorry I cannot give you a more precise answer.
Best wishes,
Karen x
