Expectant Management

Hi, I recently had an ectopic pregnancy and it was treated with the ‘wait and see’ approach, which luckily worked for me.

I have been discharged but I am not sure when I can try and conceive again? I have PCOS so don’t have a regular cycle, only have periods around twice a year! Can we start trying straight away? Or is it best to wait 3 months?

Thanks

I think I just tried to get my folic acid up again.

Dear Dannii42,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

While we usually advise to wait for two menstrual cycles, I can see this won’t apply in your case.

The normal “wait” is not only to allow your cycles to resume, but also allows time for your emotions to surface and be worked through after your ordeal and allows time for your body to heal. I would therefore advise to wait 2 months.

Sending much love,

Karen x
