Trying again

Hi, I wonder if anyone has some advice, I’m 2 months in from having an exploded eptioic pregnancy where the consultant had to do a full abdominal incision to remove my right tube and stem my internal bleeding. I am still coming to terms with all that happened but am starting to think about when to try again as my husband and I started late in life trying to have children and I am going to be 40 in October and worry that if I wait too long I’ll lose my chances of having a child. ( I know there is no guarantees but want to try as soon as possible). What’s got me confused is that everything I’ve read said its recommended that we wait for me to have my second period before trying again which I’m fine with but tonight I’ve come across an article that says you can wait 2 months if you have had laparoscopic surgery but if you’ve had a laparotomy surgery then it’s advised to wait 6 months to let the scar heal :? :?: has anyone else heard of this please? I am scared of trying again but also scared of never having a baby too. Feel cornered. Xx

Dear MrsK79,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

Whilst we would usually advise to wait for three months or two full menstrual cycles (periods), whichever is the soonest, before trying to conceive following surgery, as I am not medically trained, I would also advise following medical advice. If you are unclear, you can always talk to your GP who will have access to your medical notes regarding your surgery and will be able to give you more specific advice.

Sending much love,

Karen x
