Cramps 10 days post ovulation while TTC

Hey,

After receiving some amazing support from this fantastic charity back in January 2021 and running the GNR to say thank you, after suffering an ectopic pregnancy and losing my right Fallopian tube, my husband and I have finally decided to TTC.

I’m 9/10 days post ovulation and I’m experiencing some cramps, sharp shooting pains, headaches, constipation. Yesterday, the pains worsened and I had diarrhoea (sorry for the details) similar to what happened when I experienced an ectopic. So, I decided to contact my GP and he sent me to A&E. It was explained that because my HCG levels and urine test are showing I’m not pregnant, they can’t do anything. Frustrated because of the pain I was in and my history I tried to explain that this is what happened before, when the hospital wouldn’t internally scan me at first and they missed the ectopic which resulted in me having to have emergency surgery and I lost my Fallopian tube. Unfortunately, they didn’t get it and sent me home with some constipation tablets. I totally get why they may have to wait until I show a positive pregnancy test but I hoped they’d understand my fears and wanting to rule things out early.

Anyway, I’ve still experienced the cramping today and sharp shooting pains. So I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as I honestly feel like I’m going mad and that it’s all psychological pain!

I’m due on my period Sunday/Monday and I’m praying it doesn’t come but I will test then.

Thank you so much for your support.

Speak soon,

Sophie.

Dear Sophie,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss and current worries.

Not knowing what is going on with our bodies can be extremely overwhelming and you have friends here who understand.

If they completed a blood hCG test and that was negative, this means that there is no pregnancy hormone detected at this time. They are far more sensitive than urine hCG tests and would be used as a text to see If someone is pregnant. You can get false urine hCG tests as the level of hormone needed to meet make the test positive has to be higher than the blood tests. I have not known a false blood hCG. It maybe that it is too early to pickup up on bloods but that would indicate that the pregnancy is not yet developed enough to cause rupture.

There are many reasons for tummy discomfort including gastroenteritis, constipation, urinary tract infection, appendicitis to name but a few.

I would advise taking the medication you have been prescribed and re-testing your urine hCG as advised, but do not hesitate to seek urgent medical advice with any worsening symptoms.

Can I also just mention his much we appreciate your support for the Trust. It really does mean a lot.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Hi,

If it’s okay with you, can you please let me know the outcome. Im experiencing the same thing, 10 days past ovulation.

I also get the sharp shooting pains where it actually stops you and it’s like you can’t breath for a couple of seconds as it happens, but seconds later it’s completely gone. I have experienced it randomly, after ovulation, during periods, just really randomly. I’m 3 months post ectopic, seeing my gyni in 3 weeks

Hi Charlaine, did you ever get an answer for these random sharp shooting pains ? Ive been experiencing them for a while too and not sure what’s going on x
