Pregnancy symptoms but negative test

Hi guys

I am completely freaking out and not sure if I am just being very paranoid. I had an ectopic pregnancy in the beginning of June and lost my left fallopian tube :broken_heart: Once we got the go ahead after surgery, we started trying again.

Now for the last week I have had some early pregnancy symptoms but I know they can overlap with PMS symptoms so didn’t want to get my hopes up. I have had tender breasts, indigestion (which was my first pregnancy symptom last time) and feeling exhausted. I have also had very mild abdominal pain (like super mild period pains), usually a general twinge but sometimes on the side where my fallopian tube was removed. I never had pain with my ectopic so I can’t really compare the pain to anything like that. I also recently had a UTI so not sure if this is just after effects from that.

I am normally super regular with my cycle to the day. Even after surgery my cycle has been 28 days exactly. My periods are 2 days late so I took a pregnancy test yesterday which was negative. So I kind of figured my period would come today but it hasn’t.

Now I am running all types of scenarios through my head and worried that I have an underlying issue causing me not to ovulate and miss a period; or worse that this might be another early ectopic and the hcg levels aren’t high enough for a pregnancy test.

Has anyone else experienced this? How long should I wait for my period, or should I go to the gynae ASAP?

Dear Meg,

I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.

If you are concerned about your symptoms of they are worsening, I would always advise to seek urgent medical advice, at the very least to put your mind at rest. As you have had a recent UTI, It will be worth speaking to you GP or medical team If your symptoms haven’t quite cleared but do mention that you have not had your expected period and your previous ectopic pregnancy.

If you didn’t have any symptoms, I would advise completing an early morning urine pregnancy test in about 1 weeks time. Periods can be delayed for a number of reasons including stress or even (as surprising as it may sound) excessive exercise or weight loss. Doctors normally consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters.

It can be very worrying when we do not know what is going on with our bodies and you know your body best, so if you have any concerns, I would advise seeking medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x
