Confused

Hi I’m in shock, as 2 weeks ago absolutely fine I went to my gp cause (which I thought) I had my Period was normal for 3 days then went dark and light which was not normal for me. She said to do a pregnancy test and it came back positive and said I was most likely having a miscarriage. Went to my local EPU they couldn’t see the Fetus and my bld levels were high, said I was pregnant but can’t see where the Fetus is. Went privately and he saw it was EP what a emotional 4 days. After that was checked every day or every other day for 2 weeks. Till my level went down. I had red blood but they said it’s normal as it’s the progesterone going back to normal and not my period. But again started with the dark red/brown blood again( all ready had it for 3 weeks then the bld and started the brown again. Does anyone know how long it’s last for. As I’m extremely emotional regarding this pregnancy as waiting for embryo to leave my Fallopian as they don’t want to do the surgery. And plus been trying to fall pregnant since getting married and on top of all the my dad passed away in December. So one day I can be fine and second day just be crying all the time, like today. Also has anyone tried reflexology or acupuncture, will try absolutely anything.

Dear Sara07,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and also of the recent loss of your dad. It must be an extremely difficult time for you and my heart truly goes out to you.

When we experience ectopic pregnancy we are suddenly faced with a life threatening emergency and it’s treatment, reduction in fertility, concerns about the future and the loss of our babies. Experiencing any one of these is an ordeal, putting them together is immense and your feelings are completely normal.

Whilst the wait for hCG levels to reduce may feel very drawn out at this stage, the process is not as invasive as surgery and it maybe of comfort to know that in terms of chances of future successful pregnancies, studies do not show a significant difference between treatment routes, whether surgical, medical using methotrexate or expectant management (allowing time for the body to resolve the pregnancy itself).

In answer to your question regarding bleeding, it is not unusual to bleed following ectopic pregnancy. This first bleed is not classed as a period, it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels because you are sadly no longer pregnant. The body expels the lining of the uterus that had built up in preparation for the pregnancy because it is no longer needed. This process involves vaginal bleeding - it can be clotty or like one of your usual periods and some women have bleeding/spotting for up to six weeks.

Many women experience feelings of isolation after an ectopic pregnancy - I did, too. It is a frightening experience. Like you, I reached out to the Trust for support and I will be here for you to lean on for as long as you need.

There is no time frame for how long it takes us to heal emotionally and it is completely normal to feel anxious about the future. We will never forget our pregnancy or babies but we can learn to accept what has happened and crucially understand that it wasn’t our fault.

We are here for you for as long as you need,

Sending much love and warm hugs,

Karen x

Hi Karen thank you for getting in contact on my post. My HCG levels and potassium level are all low. Which the consultants are happy about. But now just waiting for the little embryo to leave me :frowning:

You said “studies do not show a significant difference between treatment routes, whether surgical, medical using methotrexate or expectant management. I was told it much healthy to do the management and not to remove it surgical as 1 it could damage my Fallopian tube and then will have it removed, but also heard from someone today it better as they can flush everything inside you and then be easier to conceive.
