Can breastfeeding cause ectopic?

Still breastfeeding my 1 year old. Had surgery for ectopic last week lost my left tube. I am trying to understand if breastfeeding could have caused this due to a hormone imbalance as my cycles are all over the place. They were regular before.

I have read some articles which state that hormone imbalances can cause ectopic. Apparently high estrogen and low progesterone can affect tube motility? I’m one year into breastfeeding but I’ve seen loads of info that states that your hormones might still be quite low even on 2 feeds a day. So I’m wondering if breastfeeding has somehow caused the ectopic? Does anyone have any thoughts?

Dear starry,
I am so so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss. I am not aware of breast feeding being a risk factor for ectopic pregnancy.
There are some risk factors, but one third of women and people who experience ectopic pregnancy have no risk factors at all, including myself.
The chance of another ectopic pregnancy is 20%, so thats 80% chance of it being in the right place next time. We understand that thinking about trying to conceive after a loss such as ectopic pregnancy is an emotional rollercoaster, and you have friends here who understand. We also.have a dedicated trying to conceive board for you to look at if you wish.
Sending much love,
Karen
