Hi all.
I know I have no way of confirming, but do you think my hormonal imbalances could’ve caused my ectopic? I have PCOS with high estrogen and testosterone, but low progesterone. Never had any actual cysts on my ovaries but had one at the time of removing my fallopian tube - assume the cyst was because everything was inflamed at the time. I’ve read that the progesterone was essential to help the fertilised egg move down the tube and into the uterus to implant.
I didn’t plan to be pregnant but was so happy to be. Now that I’ve lost it, I want it back more than ever. I am so scared for trying again and want to work on my hormones more before I can comfortably try to conceive again. Petrified at losing my other tube and going through this awful experience again.
Hi Maylee,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss. I know this can be a very confusing time, and these boards are filled with women who have also, sadly, experienced it. Especially in these early days, it’s so important to look after yourself physically and emotionally.
Our recovery is not straightforward and takes some time - both the physical and emotions. I want you to know that there is nothing you did to cause the ectopic pregnancy, nor, sadly, anything we can do to prevent them. I searched for causes for my own and needed to come to peace with realizing there are often no answers. In future pregnancies, you will also be able to self-refer to the Early Pregnancy Unit to have early scans, which can offer some reassurance.
Please look after yourself, and know that we are here for you as long as you need.
With good wishes,
Michele
