Not sure a poll has been done yet? Interested to know whether u will be having the swine flu jab?
(the one offered in the UK)
I am undecided, 6+2 today with 3 eps behind me, ttc since 06 and at age 37 I just don’t want to risk anything. I am terrified of loosing this little precious baby.
I am currently 23w=6 days pregnant i am frontline nursing staff on an acute medical assessment ward where should there be a big outbreak of swine flu we will be getting patients with swine flu…swine flu vaccinations are being offered to all staff in my area and i have been advised by my manager that i should definitely have it… even though i know i am a high risk of coming into contact with it and that i am high risk to have complications due to being pregnant i am still not decided whether to have it or not…I may have a word with my midwife…
I’m 9 weeks today and am having the jab next wednesday. I spoke to my GP about it who seemed more concerned that i was not sure about getting the jab. She put my mind at rest by telling me it was very simular to the seasonal flu jab which has been tested for a lot longer. I am a school tesacher and have at least one pupil with the flu at my school aleady so would rather not risk it. The leaflet i was given stated that there was a 4 times higer chance of pregnant women having serious complications and a five times higher risk of pregnant women being hopsitalised. I think after the bad luck of my EP earlier in the year I would rather not risk spending more time in hopsital. Hope this helps!
Hiya, it is such a tough one and a really personal decision I think. I’m also just over 9 weeks and have decided finally that I will have it after weighing up all the pros and cons and asking all the medically minded people that I know but it hasn’t been easyt to decide… I have also gleaned that we are more at risk of complications in the 2nd and 3rd trimester due to our immune system being more compromised and so being as for me that will be the entire winter/flu season apart from the last few weeks then I think timing wise for me I would be best to be preotected. It is true that lots of people are fine after swine flu but stats really are showing that pregnant people are more at risk of being hospitalised or having complications such as pneumoinia than other sectors in the population. I also have a toddler at pre-school and so it will be difficult to avoid it should he contract it… Don’t think this is much help… good luck everyone in making your decision about it!! xx
Well I have booked in for my jab on 12th now as i’ll be 11 + 4 then, I have read that there is an alternative jab available if pregnant women refuse the pandemrix… You have to have a second jab after 3 weeks but it doesn’t contain the thing that raises immune levels? I think it’s called celvapan.
Don’t take my word for it as I’m not an expert but I’m going to ask my gp for more info.
…went for my jab,…asked gp about Celvapan and he just shrugged his shoulders and told me to ask when I was in there so queued up with everyone else at this mornings clinic for a good 30 mins, finally got in and requested the alternative vaccine and explianed why, they seemed to be reluctant to discuss and ‘put out’ I stood my ground and after trying their best to change my mind they told me they didn’t have any in stock, that they didn’t know when but that they would ‘probably’ hold a clinic somewhere in Bristol to administer celvapan but they will call me…
I thought that the pct were advised to have this vaccine readily available should pregnant women refuse the pandemrix?! Will be just my luck I’ll catch s.flu in the meantime!!!
im a nurse so could come into contact with it. We were thinking about ttcing in a few months time so i decided to get mine - however three weeks later i got a bfp and went on to miscarry at 6weeks.I know loads of women who have had the vaccine have been fine. But i googled miscarriage and found site in america where loads of women miscarried after getting it. I know that i will never know what factors contributed to my mc but i feel i shouldnt have got it! My ds is 13months and for this reason i havnt got him it yet - dont know what to do!
As you will be aware, the predicted ‘swine flu’ pandemic, was in the grand scheme of things a bit of a damp squib. I find it incredulous that the UK government spend millions of pounds, on orders for the ‘untested’ vaccine from two suppliers and didn’t negotiate the option to cancel the orders of unneeded vaccine  . The UK is currently in possession of millions of vials of swine flu vaccine they are not going to use and looking to off load it elsewhere - abroad etc.
What I am trying to say is the flu season is almost over. Swine flu has in 2009/10 so far, resulted in fewer deaths than ordinary seasonal flu in the UK. And that you shouldn’t be overly concerned about the condition - unless you are pregnant, asthmatic, have other underlying illnesses which if you contracted flu could increase your chances of complications from the virus, or are elderly - in which case you should discuss with your health care provider your individual needs
