Another possible ectopic

Hi,

I had an ectopic in September last year, it was in my right tube. I recently found out I was pregnant (excited but also terrified) and had an early scan due to previous ectopic. At first I was told it was a pregnancy of unknown location, they took my bloods. 2 days later I was due to go back for more bloods and was told to have another scan and not bloods this time as my hormone levels are really high (9000). On the internal scan they found both sacs and although I was told it is in my uterus, it could be a cornual ectopic or it could be a normal pregnancy that is high up. I have to go back for another scan next week.

The waiting is absolutely killing me and I don’t know what to do with myself. I cannot believe that this could be happening again and would appreciate any words of wisdom. I am trying to stay positive but it’s just so hard and I’m really scared. I don’t have any bleeding or pains like I had before but can’t help but feel like it’s coming.

Thanks so much.

Dear A1893,

I am so sorry to hear you suffered an ectopic pregnancy in September last year, pregnancy after a trauma like an ectopic pregnancy can be very difficult to navigate and it can trigger a lot of difficult emotions and feelings such as anxiety and fear as you describe. Most women I speak to who have also gone through an ectopic pregnancy deeply fear going through this experience again, I know I also did, you are not alone.

I am also sorry to hear your early scans have not been straight forward for you, it is completely understandable that this has been incredibly hard and a very worrying time. Although this must be very frightening and distressing to go through, I hope you can take some small comfort that you are being looked after by experts in this field, you are being monitored carefully and should this pregnancy be another ectopic, although I understand this would be devastating for you, it’ll be diagnosed and managed early and safely.

As you say waiting can feel torturous, but please know that we are here to support you during this time. If you would like to talk to a member of our support team, you can read more about the different options available to you here: https://ectopic.org.uk/how-we-can-help

I am really hopeful for you that this pregnancy is healthy, and you get some reassuring news at your next appointment.

Sending good wishes,

Sophie
