Advice on second ectopic and impact on fertility

Hi,

This year has been pretty sh*t.

I had an ectopic pregnancy in February this year where I had emergency surgery to get my left tube removed. I then have also had two very early miscarriages.

Now on my 4th pregnancy this year I got past the stage of where I had my early miscarriages but then had a bit of spotting, was trying to convince myself it was normal… But then went into the doctors and when they examined me I realised I had pain on my right side.

So suspected ectopic in the right, was found much earlier than last time and my pregnancy hormones were already very low and dropping so am able to try expectant Management instead which seems to be fine at the moment.

This time still feels really hard because I guess last time I had hope that I could still conceive naturally with my remaining tube as after surgery they said all looked fine. But now I’m also facing that I could just be/ become infertile.

With having a suspected one in the right side I don’t know whether it’s stupid to keep trying and then having another ectopic if there are issues.

I already have a daughter (I am very lucky) so I don’t know if I’m eligible for any NHS support for ivf. And also have read that there is still increased chance of ectopic even using ivf.

Any advice from people who have experienced this?

Dear Lauren,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses. To experience one loss is difficult, to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

Although you mention that you wouldn’t be eligible for IVF, I would still ask for a referral to a fertility to who will have access to your personal notes and history and will be able to advise you further.

For now, be kind to yourself and allow time to grieve and to heal both physically and emotionally.

Sending much love and warm hugs,

Karen x
