Back to back ectopics

Pregnant last year with an ectopic on my left side which required surgery, then pregnant recently with an ectopic on my right side. No medical history or explanation. Feeling defeated. Has anyone had a similar story and been successful afterwords?

Dear Franky44,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses. To experience one loss is difficult, to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

We hear from many women who successfully conceive following multiple ectopic pregnancies, however as you have had 2 ectopic pregnancies, you may be able to be referred to a fertility specialist to discuss this with you. You can be referred via your GP.

I know that when I had my ectopic pregnancy I also looked for a reason and almost automatically we tend to blame ourselves. From the bottom of my heart, there is nothing you could have done to prevent the ectopic pregnancies from happening. I cannot emphasise enough - you are not to blame. Please be kind to yourself and I send you gentle hugs.

Hi,

I’m so sorry to hear that this has happened to you, I have had 3 pregnancies all of them being ectopics. I had 2 of them last year and it was heart breaking I know exactly how you feel, I lost my right tube in November due to my third ectopic and my left remaining tube is my most problematic tube. There is not real reason to why ectopics occur however it could be due to blockages in the tube. Once you’ve had one ectopic you are at a higher risk of having another so this could be why you’ve sadly had 2.

My husband and I have been trying for a very long time for a family and due to the ectopics we’ve been told our safest option because I also have PCOS is to have IVF. I think it’s a good idea to speak to your GP and the possibility of fertility treatment.

If you need to talk about how you’re feeling or anything please message me because I really do know how you feel. I hope this helps and although I haven’t yet had a positive experience after my ectopics we are slowly moving forward with fertility treatment.

I wish you all the best xxx

I have had one ectopic last year that took my tube along with. In many cases, the causes are not known, but it is safer to research possible causes (there are some infections that may increase the risk, Google them up and get tested to rule them out) and to have an early scan to confirm the location of the pregnancy before it rupture the tube.

The same happened to me. I lost hope but still trying. I’ll keep you girls updated
