2 ectopics

Hello

Just found out I was pregnant for the second time after an ectopic that I miscarried from my left ovary. Went for a reassurance scan and got a pregnancy of unknown location. They referred me to the EPU which I went in the next day. They couldn’t find the pregnancy again. I knew it was there as had all the pregnancy symptoms. They asked me to come in again the next day to see the consultant and have a scan with her. She found the pregnancy clear as day in my right tube which had barely left my ovary, growing. I had to make a decision there and then whether to have surgery or methotrexate. I chose the methotrexate option and waiting for it to kick in.

My husband tells me to just focus one day at a time on getting to a good place again but I can’t help but think how I move forward with this. I’m so heartbroken. I can’t bare to go through a third ectopic. Anyone had a successful pregnancy third time? X

Dear I_jayne,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses. To experience one loss is difficult, to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

When we experience ectopic pregnancy, we are suddenly faced with a life threatening emergency and it’s treatment, reduction in future fertility and the loss of our babies. Experiencing any one of these is an ordeal, putting them together is immense and your feelings are completely normal. It is still very early days and there is no timeframe for recovery, take each day as it comes. Everyone is different, some people like to be alone, some surround themselves with other people, some like gentle peaceful walks, some throw themselves into tasks/work to keep busy. There isn’t a standard approach. Do whatever feels natural to you, but it is important that you do give yourself the space you need to grieve and heal both physically and emotionally.

We have actually had a recent posts happy story after 2 ectopics on this board and 3rd time lucky on the pregnancy after ectopic pregnancy board so it is definitely possible.

As you have had 2 losses, if you have questions you wish to be answered I would advise speaking to your GP who can refer you to a fertility specialist. This may put your mind a rest a little more.

We are all here for you, please continue to lean on us for as long as you need,

Sending much love,

Karen x
