Dear Jen,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
I appreciate that feeling of wanting to “get back to normal”. With experiencing an ectopic pregnancy, your body is going through a challenging ordeal and it is important to take things easily during your treatment.
I went back to work 6 days after the methotrexate injection, but for the first week I worked 1/2 days. In retrospect, I felt I should have had that week off too as I was shocked at how utterly exhausted I felt following the injection and this is quite a common side effect.
It is also important that you do not undertake any strenuous exercise or lifting or housework while your hCG levels are dropping. While I do not want to alarm you, there remains the risk of rupture even with low or declining hCG levels. You should not resume exercise until your hCG levels are falling consistently and are in the low 100s.
It is completely up to you if you tell your employer, but I worked full time and having to take time off work for the regular blood tests, meant I did explain to my employer what had happened.
In addition, it is worth bearing in mind that experiencing ectopic pregnancy is a very frightening experience and many women need to take time to help them deal with the psychological/emotional impact of the loss of their baby, being diagnosed with a life-threatening condition and udergoing treatment. Please speak to your GP about having further time off work if required.
Above all, take time to heal both physically and emotionally,
Sending much love,
Karen x

Thanks Karen, that was all really helpful.
I will tell my employer.
Yes the hospital didn’t explain about being tired etc.
Emotionally it hasn’t really sunk in yet as I had a termination for medical reasons not that long ago so compared to how I felt then as long as I get the right treatment I feel like I’ve just got to deal with it. I am scared of trying again now though. A 1 in 8 chance of another ectopic seems so high to me
