Hello, I’m interested to know if many people felt pregnant when they had their ectopic pregnancy. With mine, I didn’t have the normal pregnancy symptoms, which marks it out for me from my live birth pregnancy and my miscarriage at 12 weeks. I am pregnant again at 6 weeks but yet to have my reassurance scan. I feel very pregnant, very nauseous and all the other things I felt with my interuterine pregnancies (like nasal mucus, tender boobs, pulling abdominal muscles, going off food etc, smells). So this has reassured me. But, maybe pregnancy symptoms in ectopic pregnancies can also be strong, perhaps they just weren’t for me. I can’t find much information about this. Do ectopics tend to feel different? I know I can’t confirm anything until I’ve had the scan, but it’s been puzzling me. Thank you.
Dear Appleday,
Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,
I think it depends how high the hCG levels reach in regards to the pregnancy symptoms as these are hormone related.
Personally, my first pregnancy was ectopic and I didn’t have any pregnancy symptoms.
My second pregnancy I had sickness but it didn’t start until I was around 8 weeks, I had nothing before that and that really worried me before I had my scan as I was convinced it meant it was another ectopic pregnancy.
My third pregnancy, I actually did the pregnancy test because I suddenly couldn’t stand the smell of the dishwasher (excellent excuse not to use it) and I then developed sickness pretty much straight away.
They were all completely different but having pregnancy symptoms is certainly a positive sign. Being 6 weeks now, I hope you have your early scan soon. If not, please book in for it as soon as possible by contacting your local EPU.
Sending much love and positive thoughts,
Karen x

Thank you Karen. What you say is interesting. I had my scan today at 6+3 and the pregnancy is in the right place and there was a visible heartbeat. I’m feeling very tearful! She said congratulations and you out of the woods, but having had a miscarriage at 12 weeks I can only take it one step at a time. I had my hospital bag with me and everything. It’s strange. Maybe I’ll relax at 20 weeks. I feel like I don’t want to tell anybody. But I hope that this might help some people, because I had aches and twinges where the ectopic was on the right and there was nothing there at all on the scan. I ovulated on the left as I thought. I had expectant management, and it took three months of trying and I’m 38. I definitely felt pregnant, unlike with the ectopic which wasn’t live and could be expectantly managed. But I couldn’t shake the aching feeling.
Best of luck to everyone xx
