Hi,
I am new to this forum but I just wondered if anyone could relate to what I am going through at the moment or offer some advice.
I found out I was having an ectopic pregnancy when I was around 6 weeks pregnant. The pregnancy wasn’t in a usual place, it had implanted in the uterus wall muscle. This showed up on a scan at the epu I was then transferred to a ward for more testing. I had a little operation but they couldn’t see the pregnancy but did say that my ovaries and tubes looked fine so did another scan a few days later which showed the pregnancy had grown and now had an heartbeat. To cut a long story short I was given several biggish doses of methotrexate which worked and after a few weeks I have been discharged as my hcg levels were 7 n I was considered ok. I am having niggly type pains sometimes slight burning sensation at the site where the ectopic was. I have been to the gp who gave me an examination and said everything seemed fine but to keep an eye on it said it could just be the healing process. I think I am going to go bk to the docs to ask if they can refer me for an ultrasound to check but just wondered if anyone had experienced something similar. This all happened in September 2016 so not tht long ago I suppose.
Thanks in advance x
Dear emmie0811,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot provide precise information on your circumstances. Many women do feel discomfort following an ectopic pregnancy as our bodies have been through a great ordeal.
The pain could be due to adhesions or scar tissue which formed as part of your healing. It could also be due to heightened awareness because of your sad loss. You may also be feeling ovulation pain (many women including myself never felt ovulation pain before the ectopic pregnancy and experience these sensations after). I think it may be worth keeping a pain diary to record when you feel the pain (including when in your cycle), its intensity on a scale of 1-10 and if anything helps such as rest, a hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. I would suggest keeping these notes for about 4/6 weeks and then seeing your doctors with this information as it would help them determine how best to manage your symptoms.
If however you feel this pain is not settling or worsening, I would advise seeking medical advice much sooner.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Thank you for your reply. I did go back to the doctors this week as I was worrying and they are sending me for an ultrasound. I go on Tuesday so I will keep you posted. The doctor did say it could be similar things to what you described as well and also that I am due my period so this could be causing the discomfort.
