Symptoms weeks after surgery

This is my first post im not actually sure where to start i guess thats how alot of us feel on a first post.

My first pregnancy was ectopic on 11th march, i was 5 weeks and had to have surgery with a tube removal by laparoscopy i also had to have blood thiner needles into my tummy for about 10 days after surgery.

Through recovery i had different symptoms. Upset stomach, pain, change in bowels, feeling full sometimes when i eat … gastro kinda problems and an odd cough which im not sure if its linked or not, some days are better than others. As well as bleeding .. i thought i already had a period but last week i started bleeding again so im guessing the other bleed might just been more my body balancing out still.

My reason for posting is i started to try and exercise alittle … well i joined in a little with the other half doing some sit ups only like a hand full if that and nothing else.. since then my stomach has been more painful and in discomfort been about 5 days now. I used to do yoga before surgery etc so exercise isnt new.

Does anyone else stuggle with exercising ? Slighlty wondering if its normal or not.
Its not stabbing pain more prob classed as dull sore … only when i cough etc it brings more. I dont want keep bothering my gp they know about my stomach as i rang them about 2 weeks after surgery and he said its probably normal and to just give it all time.
I want to start working out but im now worried im just gonna be in pain and set my stomach off for days on end. Its a horrible reminder too as its abdomen and lower stomach.

Thankyou for any help

Hi Esther1,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and completely understand the desire to get back to normal.

We generally advise that you should take it very easily for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time and please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others, one day you maybe ok and the next you maybe in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body’s signals and pain and feeling tired are your body’s signs to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy balanced diet, drinking lots of water and resting. Once your wounds have healed, very gentle exercise such as a short walk can help, but please do take this slowly.

Following surgery we would advise a slow introduction to physical activity and working up the intensity gradually. Pain is usually the bodies signal to slow things down a little.

Sadly I am not medically trained so if you are concerned about the pain you have recently experienced, I would suggest chatting this through with you doctor.

Please know we are here for you for as long as you need.

With good wishes,

Michele
