Sunlight and methotrexate

Hi everyone,

I had methotrexate 3 weeks ago now and they’ve said to avoid the sun but does anyone know how long for?

We had to cancel our holiday due to our ectopic pregnancy and I’m wanting to rebook ASAP so we have something to cheer us up and look forward to.

Hi,

I was advised 12 weeks for everything as that’s how long it would take for methotrexate to completely leave your system… Obviously it isn’t the full dose left by the end of that period, but I had methotrexate 9 weeks ago and I’m still experiencing skin sensitivity. I had a facial thinking that would be fine and my skin was bright red afterwards, despite normally being absolutely fine! Hope you manage to get away soon

Dear Bex,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,

The NHS sites I have just reviewed mention avoiding sunlight or UV exposure for the week it is given. I presume you aren’t going to go on holiday until you have been discharged from back g your bloods monitored, and that would take over a week, so I would suggest looking at going away once your hCG levels are back to pre pregnancy levels.

Sending much love,

Karen x
