My story… I had an ectopic pregnancy in November 2020 which resulted in surgery at 5 weeks +6 and the loss of my left fallopian tube. I was devastated.
Whilst I was blessed to already have a beautiful baby girl who was 9 months old then, I wanted more children but it had taken well over a year to conceive our daughter and at 39 years old I was aware that my fertility would be in decline. Coupled with the impact of an ectopic, I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to conceive again and trawled these boards and other sites for the next few months looking for hope and trying to learn more about my chances of conceiving and delivering a healthy baby post-ectopic.
To my surprise, I did fall pregnant again, much more quickly than the first time and with only one tube. Sadly this one ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks in early May 2021. Whilst it gave me hope that I would conceive again, I was almost 40 and had lost 2 babies in less than 6 months.
After months of trying again, the day after Valentines Day 2022 I discovered I was pregnant again. Although early scans suggested the baby was in the right place, initial blood tests showed slow rising HCG and I was convinced I was heading for another miscarriage. Thankfully in week 7 things started to come together and HCG started rising at a normal rate. I was plagued by agonising sciatica for the first half of the pregnancy but fast forward to late October and I gave birth to our beautiful baby boy. He’s 7 weeks old now and lying snuggled in my arms. We’re looking forward to our first Christmas as a family of four.
‘Where there’s life, there’s hope’ and I pray that my story gives someone hope this Christmas and the strength to carry on until you meet your Rainbow baby, God willing.
