Looking for some advice. I travelled to US for a holiday at 6 weeks pregnant and started bleeding/ period cramps after I arrived. After a week and multiple hospital trips it was confirmed as an ectopic pregnancy.
I was given methotrexate a week ago as I was keen to avoid surgery and my HCG levels have gone down by 35% between days 4 and 7 with no pain/ bleeding etc. After 3 weeks away and going through this situation I am desperate to go home, I’m aware the official advice is not to travel until levels are effectively zero but that could take weeks/ months and I can’t feasibly stay in US that long.
Is there an acceptable point risk wise to travel? My HCG levels are currently 4,000.
Thanks
Dear Cari,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss, especially as you are away from friends and family.
We would advise on avoiding flight travel until you have been discharged from your hospital care setting as unfortunately there is still a risk of rupture with low and declining levels. It would be worth speaking to your medical team out there to see what they suggest but also to your medical insurance company as they may not cover you until you are discharged from care.
We will be here for you during this difficult time, these boards are a safe space to ask questions, share experiences and even vent.
Best wishes,
Karen x
