Hi…I’m new here and struggling terribly. I had surgery on the 7th for an ectopic pregnancy. They removed part of my fallopian tube during the process. The day of surgery my hCG was 3500. I had blood work done on the 20th and my hCG was 3900. My doctor had me get a 95mg dose of methotrexate the next day. They did a blood draw on Monday and my hCG was 4200. I’m going back tomorrow for another blood draw but I’m stressed that there is something else wrong. At this point I’ve gone through surgery with an uncomfortable recovery for nothing and I’m worried the methotrexate isn’t working. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m just a wreck as this was the first pregnancy for my husband and I. I’m literally terrified to ever try again in the future.
Hi, I’m so sorry you are going through this. Have they said why your hcg is at such a high level after your surgery? Are they saying they didn’t remove everything they should have?
Methotrexate has a really high success rate and if it fails with the first injection they will do a second. They tend to have a good idea a week after the injection if the first shot will be successful.
You are not alone. My ectopic was my first pregnancy, awful traumatic experience, last 12 weeks if bleeding and pain but when you get to the end you will be able to start healing emotionally. My hcg was 4600 so similar to yours and it worked. I was petrified of another ectopic especially as my tube is still there but I tried again got pregnant and had a chemical pregnancy (not traumatic) and will try again. Its early days you do need time to emotionally heal.
The first few days after methotrexate its known that your hcg will increase thats really normal but there has to be a 15% drop between day 4 and 7. So try not to worry too much.
