I’ve just had the dreaded news that my HCG levels haven’t dropped 15% as they should after having the methotrexate (today is day 7).
I know the next steps would be either a second dose or surgery, but I was wondering if anyone knew the criteria or had experience of what may help the doctors decide which is next surgery or methotrexate?
I’m so sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy. I hope you’re doing ok.
I was treated with methotrexate in July. On day 7 my HcG had only dropped by one but I spoke with the midwife and asked if I could be tested again on day 10 as my HCG was only at 234. They agreed and by day 10 my HcG had dropped to 143 so maybe ask if this is an option for you? I know everyone’s circumstances are different but you could always ask the question x
Hi Lauren, I had to have two injections as mine had only dropped by 11.9% on day 7 after the first one. However, after the second injection it started falling swiftly. I started on 5050 before the first injection, it rose on day 4 by less than a hundred and dropped to 4525 on day 7. After the second injection, on day 4 it had dropped to 2731 and on day 7 it had dropped by 46% to 1450. They think because it was so high to start with that I needed that second injection to get it down. I’m not out of the woods yet but I am down to weekly visits now. Each case is individual and only you and your practitioners will know what will be the best option for you now. I wanted to avoid surgery at all costs and they respected this decision and fingers crossed It may have been the correct decision for me if it keeps dropping. Keep talking, it really does help.
