Some tube left behind.

Hi

I had an ectopic last February and had to have emergency surgey. I lost my right tube but as I’m already having to do IVF was not so concerned. But now I have changed doctors and after 2 consultations from the X-rays I had done both doctor say there is a bit of the tube left behind, 1 says surgery to remove the the bit left behind and the other doesn’t think it’s necessary to remove. Has anyone had this or similar, I’m really not sure what to do. Any help advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Daisaki,

I’m so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through. Unfortunately, I’m not medically qualified and can not comment directly on your situation. There is some information in medical literature that Dr’s may want to remove the stump as it can be a site of ectopic pregnancy. However, even the removal sadly cannot prevent future ectopic pregnancies. There may also be medical reasons for the removal associated with IVF, and your doctors would likely give a precise reason for removal as it is a surgical procedure.

I would certainly recommend continuing to follow up with your Dr’s with additional questions, especially if you are considering surgical routes.

With good wishes,

Michele

Thanks for answering. We have decided not to do surgery yet, as I feel removing the small part will not benefit us in anywAy. I have been researching and this is also what 1 doctor told us. Hopefully we will start new round of ivf next month. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
