Second pregnancy

Hi all

I posted on here after my ectopic in February which was my first pregnancy after trying to conceive for 2 months, my hcg levels were quite low and was treated with methotrexate

We started trying again in June and last week I was due on my period. I had very light bleeding for 2-3 days mostly brown blood and went to my GP about it as my periods had been different the last few months, I felt reassured though after it that this is normal after an ectopic. I decided on Saturday to do a pregnancy test just because I’d been tired and emotional and and got a line straight away. I was shocked but very anxious because of the bleeding and rang the EGU straight away and been having hcg monitoring ever since.

My results have been rising every 48 hours:

173 then 553 then 1753 and I’m only 5 weeks today and I have scan at the EGU on Friday. I’ve been having very mild twinges on my ectopic side particular around my groin area. I also have barley any pregnancy symptoms and wouldn’t have thought of doing a pregnancy test if I wasn’t being so cautious after my ectopic

I know I ovulated this month on my ectopic side as I had a private scan earlier this month due to my periods being a bit off. So I’m convinced it’s another ectopic despite the rising hcg levels :frowning: based on the brown spotting I’m having, twinges and how I know it’s the same side. Just hoping I’m proven wrong and I get some good news, I’ll really struggle going through it again and losing my tube

Just a bit of an update. Yesterday was a rollercoaster of a day. My pregnancy hormone is doubling around 4500 and I’m 5 weeks.

I had a scan and they saw a gestational sac in my uterus but no embryo and a bit of fluid around my left side (side where I had a possible ectopic last time). As they couldnt rule out ectopic they did explorative laparoscopic surgery due to my history of possible ectopic on the left side last time and brown spotting.

When I woke up after surgery I was expecting them to say they had removed my left tube so was a bit of a surprise to hear they found no ectopic in either of my tubes, said they looked good.

They didn’t go close to my uterus incase there is a growing baby there.

Saw something close to my my left ovary where I ovulated which they said was defo not ectopic or cancerous and could be a cyst such as the corpus luteum causing the slight pain on that side and fluid I have, I’m going to clarify this more today before I leave .

I stayed in hospital overnight as in pain following surgery but plan is for another scan next week with a consultant and home today.

They think it’s either a pregnancy but too early to see embryo on the scan as I’m about 5 weeks or a failing pregnancy (I have no pregnancy symptoms at all)

Trying to to be positive. Please keep your fingers crossed for me x

Dear Laura,

I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.

Something similar happened to me. I didn’t have surgery, but I had scans which didn’t show much. I was told to attend a week later where a scan showed a little heartbeat in my uterus.

I’m hoping you also have positive news in your next investigation.

Keep us posted and I am sending lots of positive thoughts,

Karen x
