Same pains in same exact spot-pregnant again

Hello. Last yr I had a ectopic in my right tube and successfully treated w mtx. The past 9 months, I have had twinges of pain in the exact spot of where the ectopic was. Now I am 5 wks pregnant and the same spot seems to be having more intense pains. Its random and not constant. Anyone experience this? Also, I have had very light spotting that is dark brown. Last yr during my ectopic I had brown spotting that eventually turned into a full flow. Can brown light spotting still be normal? Thank you for any insight.

Dear Lankfordsn123,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

Although I do not wish to alarm you, as you are experiencing pain and spotting, I would advise seeking urgent medical advice. It maybe completely normal for you, but seeking medical advice would put your mind at rest.

Sadly I do have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, worsening abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell please seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Thank you for the kind words. I had a scan today that revealed I am 5w 3d and it is in the right spot! They did find a small cyst on my right ovary, which is the same side as my previous ectopic. I am guessing it might be a little more sensitive in that area due to scar tissue. I have another scan booked for next week as they want to make sure everything looks good at week 6. I am so excited. My blood work looks great and they were able to see the yolk sac and fetal pole today. Next week they will be checking for a heartbeat. I am so thrilled and relieved. They think I ovulated from the same side as my previous ectopic, which os scary but good news it made it to the right spot.

Dear lankfordsn123,

Thank you for keeping us updated, this is such good news and I will keep those positive thoughts going for your next scan.

Sending much love,

Karen x

That’s really good news! I got diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy in March, treated with MTX and just started ttc again this month (Now that 3 months have passed). I’ve had twinges on my eptopic side side being treated, nothing painful but just an occasional feeling. I think I might be pregnant as my breast are really tender like they were last time and my right leg was aching last night which scared me a bit. My period isn’t due until next week so will have to wait and see. So nervous and scared that I might have another ectopic but your post gives me hope - thanks for sharing! X

Sorry ignore the bit that says “…being treated…”. Not really sure how that crept in there. :?

How long did your brown spotting last?

My spotting this time around lasted around 2-3 days. It was implantation bleeding. I hope this post gives hope to everyone. I was not ttc, it just happened. I was having very similar pains as I did AFTER mtx w my ectopic. Ultrasound showed that I ovulated from the same side as my ectopic and I had a small cyst on my ovary. The cyst must have been close to the spot of my ectopic last year. I am now 7 wks and the pain eventually got dull. I had a scan at 5wks and 6wks. With my ectopic, I had gradual brown spotting that increased and then thought I had a miscarriage. I was terrified when I found out I was pregnant, but so relieved everything is ok. I had so much pain last yr after the mtx shot, I thought for sure I had a lot of scar tissue build up. Good luck to everyone!

Really glad to hear things are all going well! So, I found out that I am actually pregnant last week. So scared that it might be another ectoptic given the discomfort experienced in the previous ectopic area! Booked in for a 5 week scan on Friday. Fingers crossed its all good news! Good luck to you all x
