Previous ectopic on left side, followed by normal pregnancy, now worried sick with pains and bleeding.

Hi,

I have had a previous ectopic on my left side and fallopian tube removed. I was lucky enough to fall pregnant again and now have a healthy 2 year old. I am now 5 weeks pregnant and am suffering with what I thought was spotting, but now bleeding more heavily. I have a pain in my right shoulder but no cramps or anything. Is it normal to have a healthy pregnancy on the remaining side could I be having another ectopic? I’m worried sick and they will not scan me now for a few days x

Dear Lauramay,

I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.

I do not wish to alarm you, but if you bleeding in early pregnancy, coupled with pain, and a previous ectopic pregnancy, It is extremely important that you seek urgent medical advice to exclude an ectopic pregnancy.

Whilst these symptoms can be common in early pregnancy and people do to on to have successful pregnancies, your safety is paramount and as your symptoms are worsening, I would advise attending your nearest A&E, if nothing else but to put your mind at rest.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x
