preparing for ttc after methotrexate

Hi.

I had an ectopic in September and had methotrexate. I started taking folic acid once my hcg had gone down to zero and have had 1 cycle gone so looking towards this cycle passing and starting ttc again in December.

My predicted ovulation date will be exactly 3 months after the methotrexate. Should I wait an extra cycle?

Dear Butterflyrose

I’m sorry for the delaying in answering your question. There are two bits of advice relating to timing ttc after methotrexate.

Medical professionals advise you wait for three months or two full menstrual cycles (periods) before trying to conceive to allow your cycle to return and there to be a clear Last Menstrual Period date to date a new pregnancy from – information that is invaluable in ensuring you are not suffering from another ectopic pregnancy in the future. This wait also allows the internal inflammation and bruising from the ectopic and any associated treatment to heal.

If you have had either one or two injections of Methotrexate, once your hCG levels have fallen to below 5mIU/mL you should take a folic acid supplement for 12 weeks before you try to conceive.

I know it can feel like a long time to wait before trying again, but there are good reasons for the delay.

Much love

Sorry to jump on the thread but I was discharged when HCG reached 15. Do I count my twelve weeks from that date?
