Pregnant again, but pinching pain after salpingectomy

Having suffered a horrendous miscarriage last May and an eptopic pregnancy this January leading to a salpingectomy (including entire removal of my left tube) I was so surprised to find out I am approaching 8 weeks pregnant already. Ultrasound to confirm location showed so far so good. We are of course thrilled but I am also crapping myself. In the last week or two I have experianced a pinching feeling on my left hand side. Aware there is no tube there and having had it confirmed that I ovulated from my right tube I was concerned regarding scar tissue? Does anyone know if scar tissue after an eptopic cause pain in subsequent pregnancies?

Many thanks

Dear Zooe85

Whispered congratulations to you!

Some women do report discomfort during subsequent pregnancies particularly following invasive surgery. As you rightly say, this could be being caused by scarring, known as adhesions (scar tissue that connects two or more body structures together) which formed as your body healed after your ectopic pregnancy and surgery. Following an ectopic pregnancy, it is not unusual to feel pain and discomfort in the abdomen and awareness of such feelings can be heightened as a result of the experience of losing a pregnancy. If it offers any comfort, my story is similar to yours as I also lost my tube, ovulated from that side when I conceived and felt all sorts of twinges. Even after my own scan, I had to keep reassuring myself over and over that the embryo was in the right place!

I would say that if you find that you cannot manage the pain (you could try lying down in a quiet place and asking yourself how you feel in that moment) or if the pain increases in intensity or if you experience any bleeding or an increased temperature of more than 37°c, please do get yourself checked out for peace of mind.

Wishing you all the best for the coming weeks and months. x

I had this same kind of pain after my ectopic with my successful pregnancy. I think the Dr said it was from adhesions which I knew I already had as I had to have more surgery 3 months post ectopic surgery to try and repair my remaining tube.
