Pregnant again and anxious

Hi, I previously suffered an ectopic early in 2019. It resulted in surgery and my right tube removed. I was lucky enough to go on to have a successful pregnancy with my daughter being born in 2020. She turned 1 in Jan and we decided to leave it to fate if we were to have another. It seems we have been extremely lucky again and today I have a positive test. However, as expected I feel really anxious and was wondering will I be offered an early scan as I was in my previous pregnancy? Or because I have had a successful pregnancy since will they not offer me one this time?

On a positive note, it just shows how good does come out of bad times. I have my rainbow baby and another pregnancy now.

Dear Kate32,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,

Yes, you should be offered an early pregnancy scan with any future pregnancies after you have experienced an ectopic pregnancy.

Speaking from UK medical practice and standards, usually doctors carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo around this six week mark.

We advise contacting your local EPU, reminding them of your ectopic pregnancy and booking an appointment. If you are unable to self refer, contact your GP who will be able to do this for you.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x
