Pregnant after ectopic, experiencing back pain

Almost a year to the day of my ruptured ovarian ectopic, I am now 5 weeks 6 days.

I oscillate between cautious hope and extreme anxiety. My main symptoms are going to the bathroom more frequently and lower back pain on my right side. I have a midwife I really trust and she’s followed my HCG and we have a scan scheduled for 6 weeks 3 days. She’s reassured me that back pain does not automatically equate to ectopic and/or miscarriage.

It is just so hard to remind myself “different pregnancy, different outcome.” It’s especially bizarre because I don’t feel pregnant (I find myself longing to feel nauseous which feels ridiculous but here I am).

Would love any words of encouragement and success stories (specifically with back pain)

Thank you!

Dear Tamarmalade,
Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.
Finding out we are pregnant again can bring a mixture of emotions, and it can be common to feel discomfort. I was worried too, but my 6 week scan identified a healthy pregnancy in my uterus.
It seems as though your hCG levels are rising as expected if your midwife is happy, which is not a diagnosis of a viable pregnancy, but is a good sign.
I wish i could speed up time until your first scan. Try to keep your mind busy with gentle exercise, reading, watching box sets, meeting friends or family. Anything to keep you busy.
I sadly must advise to seek urgent medical advice with any worsening pain or new bleeding, or you feel dizzy and unwell. Back pain is really common anyway, so I hope this is just heightened due to your concerns and will settle soon.
Sending much love and positive thoughts,
Karen x

Thank you Karen, I really appreciate it!

Just wanted to come back and update that I had my 6 week scan and they saw an intrauterine pregnancy and a flicker of cardiac activity that measured 158. I am so overcome with gratitude and still anxious as I approach my big fetal maternal medicine scan at 11 weeks.

My midwife is the best and scheduled a scan for me at 8 weeks because she knows how anxiety ridden I’ve been.

Dear Tamarmalade,
This is such good news. Thank you for taking the time to update your post. It really will bring comfort to so many.
I understand you still feeling anxious, I did too and I think this is quite common after experiencing loss.
I will keep sending positive thoughts for your next scans and we will continue to be here for you for as long as you need.
Karen x

Just wanted to hop in and say I had my 12 week scan with fetal maternal medicine and everything is measuring well and there is still a strong heartbeat!

If it’s reassuring to anyone, it turned out the back pain I was having was from the corpus luteum cyst in the ovary I ovulated from (and also had my ectopic from).
