Pregnant 6 months post-surgery

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant after ectopic surgery six months ago! :face_holding_back_tears: Even though I’m still having some abdominal pains post-surgery I recently had a scan and everything looks fine.

It’s still very, very early (3 weeks) so feeling anxious for things to progress, and of course, be in the right place this time.

How soon should I see my GP and have an early ultrasound check?

I only got to over 5 weeks before so not sure what to expect.

First of all congratulations! It’s really nice to read this news today!
When I was treated in the hospital, they told me the following. Hope it helps>>>
You can ring the Early Intervention Unit directly and they will make an appointment for you around the 5wk mark. Alternatively, you can go to the GP and they will refer you for a scan.
It’s understandable that you’re feeling anxious. Be kind to yourself and take care x.

Thank you so much and for the information

Going to call my GP today to chat and get things started. Eek!

Very anxious but if I can have an early scan in a week and everything is ok, it will definitely put my mind at ease. :crossed_fingers:

Dear Ell,
Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.
As others have said, we recommend a scan at around 6weeks, this is because there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo at this stage. Some early pregnancy units will let you self refer, others have to go through your GP, so I hope you have some further information following your appointment today.
I do sadly have to remind your to seek urgent medical advice with any pain, bleeding, or you feel dizzy and unwell, but I am sending lots of positive thoughts.
Best wishes,
Karen x

Thank you Karen

Glad to say I was quickly referred to the Early Pregnancy Unit by my GP.

I’m currently 4+4 and have had two blood tests 48 hours apart to check hormones. I’m very nervous waiting for the results, particularly as 4+5 was the start of feeling unwell last time. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Is it typical to have blood tests this early on? And how frequent are checks and tests?

I didn’t even get to my first GP last time before things went awol.

Dear Ell,
I am glad you have been referred. Blood tests aren’t routinely offered in the UK as they are not used to diagnose an ectopic pregnancy. They can however give some guidance as to how a pregnancy is developing in the early stages. It is the scan that will be used to see that the embryo has made it to the right place and I will be keeping everything crossed for you.
Sending more positive thoughts,
Karen x

An update

I had an early scan. Things are in the right place and could even see a yolk sac :face_holding_back_tears: I have another scan in 2 weeks.

I’m now one day past the point I was last time when I needed surgery. So grateful things are different and progressing well so far.

I know everyone’s situation is different, but there can be light at the end of the tunnel after an ectopic

Dear Ell,
This is such positive news. I am really pleased for you. Thank you so much for keeping us updated and I will continue sending positive thoughts for your next scan.
Best wishes,
Karen x
