Pregnant 6 months after Ectopic

Hello,

I had an Ectopic pregnancy in my left tube last August that was successfully treated with Methotrexate. I had an HSG test done in November that showed both tubes were clear.

Due to other fertility issues, I had ovulation induction and an IUI done in February and found out last week that I was pregnant. My initial HCG 15 days post IUI was only 15 which is on the low side. I have been going in for blood work every two-three days and my last check on Friday my levels were 792.

I am now 5 weeks pregnant. I have been having pains the past few days in the same area where I previously had the ectopic (tube is still there). I also know that I had multiple follicles in both ovaries but the largest was on the same left side as my previous ectopic. I have also had some brown jelly like spotting since yesterday.

I am fearful of another ectopic. I go in for repeat bloodwork tomorrow and should hopefully have an ultrasound later this week to confirm pregnancy location.

Is there any possibility of this being a viable pregnancy?

Nicole

Hi Nicole,

I’m hoping your bloods and Ultrasound go well. I have everything crossed for you. I know what a scary time it can be. You’re stronger than you give yourself recognition for.

Best wishes,

Hannah

Dear Nicole,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

Having said this, If you find that you start bleeding or the pain worsens, I would always advise to seek urgent medical advice just to be on the safe side.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Thank you for your kind words Hannah.

Thank you Karen for your response.

Unfortunately, its hard to be positive as these are the exact symptoms I had with my last ectopic.

If its another ectopic in my same left tube, I am contemplating just having it removed as there is obviously an issue with it. I have no idea if my right tube is good though.

I will keep you updated as to my test results this week.

Nicole

Update:

Unfortunately, my HCG levels only slightly increased over 3 days, no where close to doubling.

Did an ultrasound today and they say it appears to be an ectopic in the right tube this time. There is nothing in my uterus. They have referred me to the ER for further assessment and potential surgery as they see blood behind the uterus.

Just feeling really sad and overwhelmed right now.
