Pregnant 2 years after ectopic pregnancy

In 2014 i was pregnant, me and my boyfriend was so excited but couple days after my bday in october i started to bleed so i went to the doctor. He told me he cant say what happen disspite i told him i took a home pregnancy test. He ordered me to take a ultrasound and another pregnancy test at hospital.Again i was told i pregnant and then i went for ultrasound, i was told the baby is not seen in my ulterus so it was a risk of having ectopic pregnancy. i was hospitalized and they just give me medication, telling me i was lucky it didnt reach futher but had done no surgery. now after 2 years i am pregnant again. i try to get an appointment for ultrasound but was told i wont have it till next year, right now am trying to get money to go private doctor

Dear Aisha,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. When I found out I was pregnant again my mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

It is usual for doctors carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance at six weeks of seeing an embryo around this six week mark. I completely understand how difficult it is counting down to the six week scan, but I can reassure you that waiting until you are 6weeks is standard practice.

I am not sure who you have been through to arrange your scan but we advise to contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.

Also, while I do not want to alarm you, if you experience any pain or unusual bleeding, please do get medical attention as soon as you can.

Sending warm hugs and positive thoughts,

Karen x
