Positive pregnancy test and pains

Hi all

I suffered an ectopic pregnancy in July 2017, treated successfully with methotrexate.

We started trying this year and I just did a First Response test this morning and got a faint pink line. I have been having a dull ache on my ectopic side for the last few days. It isn’t sharp but its there. Did any of you feel it and then carried on to have a healthy pregnancy?

Try not to worry, just because you have had an ectopic previously doesn’t mean that you will have another one as many women go on to having healthy babies, but its always best to go for a early scan just to put your mind at ease.

Once your hcg levels reach over 1500 they will be able to see something on a early scan

FR test*

Thanks Kamee. The pain/soreness seems to have died down now. I don’t feel pregnant at all other than some upper backache which is new.

I called my EPU. They have booked me in for a scan on 1st October as I should be closer to 6 weeks at that time. Hope all is well.

Hi all,

Just an update. I did another FR this morning which came up as negative, but I could see a very faint line after 3 minutes went up. The FR I did two days ago was faint but clearly positive. Am I testing too early? I don’t have regular cycles so can’t predict the actual ovulation day but I think I must be between 12-15 dpo.

The soreness/discomfort in my ectopic side is back since last night along with period like cramps. Scary!

Has anyone experienced this?

Dear nm2808,

Depending on the make of the pregnancy test, ensure you are reading it within the time frame advised on the instructions with your first wee of the morning. If you remain unsure, speak to your GP surgery who maybe able to test urine or blood levels themselves, especially if you continue to experience pain.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Thanks Karen.

Update! I did another FR test that came up as a faint positive. So i had one faint positive, then negative, and then faint positive again within 4 days.

I started having period cramps and normal period bleeding yesterday, so we went to A&E. The blood and urine test came back negative. Even the doctor was surprised to see my faint positives.

Either I had false positives or I had a very very early loss. I am happy its all normal and not another ectopic.

Thanks for the support. x
