Six days ago I had my first methotrexate shot, I went in two days later and the embryo in my right tube got a lot smaller.
Day 4 I did a blood test and my HCG went up my doctor indicated that this is normal for some people it jumped from 1849 to 2153. I felt comfortable because I knew the vaginal ultrasound showed improvements.
Today is now the 6th day I am due to repeat the HCG test on Monday (tomorrow). I have no bleeding, spotting and I’m getting some pinching pains on the fallopian tube which has the embryo. I am using a heating pillow to help the pain. It’s not extreme pain but it’s there. Is any of this normal? Should I be concerned?
I am so nervous lol please any advice appreciated.
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
Pain can be very common post ectopic pregnancy, however pain is also very subjective so I always advise you to seek medical advice with any worsening or unusual symptoms. You can take some paracetamol per packet instructions to see If this helps, please do not take any medication containing ibuprofen. If you otherwise feel well and the pain is not worsening, you could wait until your appointment tomorrow to discuss your symptoms, however if the pain is worsening, you develop shoulder tip pain, or feel dizzy and unwell, please seek urgent medical advice.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Sorry for your loss, I had pain on and office from end of Nov to late Jan when I was finally ‘not pregnant’ each time I went into A&E (better to be safe than sorry) and they said that the ‘mass’ can pulsate and get larger before smaller which can cause pain, it could be general tenderness as it’s been quite traumatic, when I had severe pain it was pain of the cyst bursting on my ovary and then I’ve had ovulation pain which I never had before, last couple days of Jan/early feb.
Sucks but it seems to be part of it. I hope you continue to drop in HCG and have no bleeding.
Not experiencing vaginal bleeding after being treated with methotrexate is not something you have to be too worried about. Some will not experience bleeding as a side effect with this medical treatment option.
To check that the treatment is working, it is important to attend regular appointments with your healthcare professionals to have your hCG levels monitored.
Sending much love,
